About This Item

New York: The Book League of America, 1931. First Thus. Hardcover with Dust Jacket. Fine/Very Good+. 8vo. Pp. viii, [2], 610. Bound in tan cloth with stylized purple lettering. In the dust jacket printed with the repeating pattern of the publisher's logo. Slight scuff on front panel of dust jacket, spine a tad darkened. The author is perhaps best known in the US for his novel The Song of Bernadette (1941), successfully adapted to the screen in 1943, Jennifer Jones starring. The dust jacket is a triumph of graphic design, belatedly presenting a Wien Werkstatte construct that remains, ineffably, within the art deco aesthetic. A notably bright copy. Dust jacket is now preserved in a removable, clear archival sleeve.
