About This Item
Good to very good, blue cloth boards faded to spine with black titles to front and spine, some light wear to top and bottom of spine and rubbed to corners, Previous owners name to front end paper otherwise very clean throughout.
This book received literary acclaim (ranking it with All Quiet on the Western Front) when first published in 1919, it describes in a detailed narrative the German offensive of 1918 and the return "Push" later in the year leading up to the battle of Amiens and the end of the First World War. The detail is very precise and clearly taken from the authors personal records written at the time. The narrative is provided from an Officer's perspective and as such a lot of his "concerns" are to do with getting a comfortable bed, not missing lunch, will there be wine etc, rather than the atrocious conditions that his men had to endure, in their hastily dug trenches and bolt holes. The book remains interesting and worth reading from a historical viewpoint as it highlights the attitude of the Officer Class and all that was wrong with it in the First World War, rather than the horrors of War that were written about in later works by ordinary soldiers who actually did the day to day fighting.
