About This Item

New York: Dutton, 1928. First American Edition, 1st Printing. Hardcover. Very good. Octavo, 283pp., including Glossary at rear, which defines a number of Scottish colloquialisms. A very good copy, with some faint insect damage to boards, and mild foxing to endleaves; still a nice, clean copy. Some pages were inartfully opened, which has caused a few closed tears to margins. In the very scarce dust jacket, good only, with significant rubbing and creasing to extremities, and a hole at the front spine joint; still complete, and quite uncommon in any condition. Shepherd was among the chief exemplars of Scottish modernist literature in the first half of the 20th century, though her memoir of hill-walking in the Grampain Mountains, published decades after she wrote it (in 1977), remains her best-known work.

About Cleveland Book Company

We are proud members of the ABAA.

As a small, independent bookseller in Cleveland, Ohio, I deal in general used, rare, and antiquarian books, autographs, manuscripts, pamphlets, and personal and family papers in all subjects. My family has been in the antiquarian book business since 1971. Are you moving, downsizing, or doing some spring cleaning? Did you inherit or otherwise come into some old books? Or, maybe you've collected modern novels from the last thirty or fifty years. No matter what kinds of books you have, we'd love to take a look at them! We travel throughout Ohio, western Pennsylvania and New York, southern Michigan, and eastern Indiana, and will travel farther in some cases to look at whole libraries or even just a few particularly interesting books. Give us a call at (216) 352-3940 and we can talk more about the kinds of books you have.
