Errata page, advertisements, index. Blind-stamped lavender cloth, gilt-lettered front cover. Scattered light foxing, spine faded to brown. A very good, complete copy. Very scarce. Blowpipe test, chemical tests, assays, roasting, purification of mercury, extraction of silver by the Freyberg process, the separation of lead and silver by various processes, mechanics, horse's power of various water wheels, steam power, mechanical powers, mensuration, tractor and differently formed grinding plates, miscellaneous conversions, and more. "Mindfull that science and practice go hand in hand, the authors have confined their investigations to useful and established facts, leaving untouched all that is doubtful and chimerical" (Preface). Includes a supplement (by Randall) on the grinding effects of differently formed plates, being a reply to W. A. Goodyear. [No auction records; OCLC listing only one copy of this edition. An 1888 edition is also listed]..

The Argonaut was a founding member of the Antiquarian Booksellers\' Association of America and has been a member in good standing ever since. The Shop is now located just three blocks from Union Square in downtown San Francisco and is open six days a week. Parking facilities include ample street space and a parking garage close by.
