London: Jonathan Cape, 1966. Ninth Impression. Hardcover. Near Fine/Good. 8vo 8" - 9" tall. A fine contribution to the Bedford Historical Series, being the inaugural contribution thereto, in 1934 and reprinted abundantly for its scholarship and readability. Subsequent volumes were penned by R.W. Chambers, Duff Cooper, Geoffrey Baskerville, Gladys Scott Thomson, A.L. Rowse, C.V. Wedgwood, Iris Origo and others. Sturdy, attractive, tightly bound hardcover, clean, if toned, minimal rubbing to extremities. Publishers have stamped a device said to have marked Queen Elizabeth's books in gilt to front cover. Simple, printed dust wrapper present, moderately worn and a bit dusty, previous owner's accession tape along spine bottom, else a remarkably clean and readable copy. Eight black-and-white illustrations. Volume contains scholarly apparatus in the form of, e.g., notes, index, and bibliography. Extensive prelims, 12-402 pp.Member, I.O.B.A., C.B.A., and adherent to the highest ethical standards. Additional postage may be required for oversize or especially heavy volumes, and for sets.
