About This Item
London: Jonathan Cape, 1934. 1st Edition 4th Printing. Hardcover. Good. First edition, fourth impression. Hardback, bound in the original green cloth with gilt titling to spine. 23 × 15cm, 402pp. This copy belonged to James Lees-Milne, and has been signed by him to the ffep, as well as having his bookplate to the front pastedown. James Lees-Milne was an architectural historian and played an important part in the acquisition of properties for the National Trust after the Second World War. He was also a novelist but became best known for his witty, waspish and extensive diaries which were published over twelve volumes. A well-regarded biographical study of Queen Elizabeth I by a noted authority on the Elizabethan age. Condition: Good condition. The green cloth boards are a little rubbed and bumped, but the contents are in good condition with just a little tanning to the prelims. (Please note, this copy isn't signed by the author as abe's database will suggest, but by James Lees-Milne, as a previous owner...)
