REPRINT circa 1905, (first published in 1901), 180 x 115 mm, 7 x 4½ inches, purple cloth, royal arms in gilt to upper cover, gilt lettered spine, green lettered to upper cover, gilt and green decoration to spine, 260 pages. Frontispiece and numerous engravings, some full page. Spine cloth faded to tan and slightly spotty, gilt bright, corners just very slightly bumped. Traces of bookplate removal on front pastedown. A very good copy. As Newbolt No. 94.4 except that the imprint reads London Glasgow and Bombay (without Dublin). The first edition which was an up-to-date reissue of The Sovereign Reader (1887 and 1900), was published in 1901 in the same format but with white blocking rather than pale green.
