Edinburgh: Printed for Archibald Constable and Co., 1823. FIRST EDITION, 3 vols., 8vo, pp. [ii], lxiii, [i], 273, [1]; [ii], 331, [1]; [ii], 360. Half-titles discarded. Near contemporary half tan roan, pale green paper boards, spines divided by gilt rules and lettered direct in gilt. Just a touch of spotting, dampmark to last gathering of vol. 1. Rebacked and recornered preserving sections of original backstrip to 2 vols., hinges relined, old leather and boards rubbed and soiled. Small black labels with Teddesley lettered in gilt affixed to front boards. Presumably from the library at Teddesley Hall, Staffordshire, seat of the Barons Hatherton, demolished in 1953. About McNaughtan's Bookshop
Established in 1957, McNaughtan's Bookshop is the oldest surviving secondhand and antiquarian bookshop in Scotland. Located in the basement of a listed 1820s tenement building at the top of Edinburgh's Leith Walk, we are the only open shop in Edinburgh holding membership of the Antiquarian Booksellers Association. We stock rare, antiquarian, and collectable books on all subjects, along with a substantial range of secondhand books for browsing.
