The title page has been trimmed a little to the top edge otherwise this is a fine copy bound in a fine leather binding of recent full red morocco. Spine with five raised bands. The compartments decorated, ruled and lettered in gilt. Single gilt ruled border on boards. Top edge gilt. Marbled endpapers. Original publishers spine is bound in at the rear. An attractive copy of the first volume in Powell's Dance to the Music of Time series.
Synopsis
A Question of Upbringing is the opening novel in Anthony Powell's masterpiece, A Dance to the Music of Time, a twelve-volume cycle spanning much of the 20th century. Published in 1951, it begins the story of a trio of boys, Nicholas Jenkins (the narrator), Charles Stringham, and Peter Templer, who are friends at a nameless school (based upon Powell's public school Eton College) and then move onto different paths.
