About This Item

Boca Raton, Florida, USA: CRC Press, 1989. Book. Good. Hardcover. The book is in good condition, minor bend on top edgewise corners, slight indentation to top of spine, slight shelf rubbing to the book, a few instances of notes, last page contains the majority, first page has one area that has been blacked out that contained the previous owners name, the text is otherwise clean and clear throughout, all notes appear in pencil. 'The kynurenine pathway of trytophan metabolism has been known and used clinically for many years. In addition, pharmacological actions of some of the components of this pathway had been under investigation for about a decade when it was discovered, in 1981, that quinolinic acid was highly selective substance, interacting with a specific population of receptors in the mammalian brain. Since then there has been a huge growth in the world wide interest in quinolinic acid and other kynureines and the purpose of the present volume is to present an up-to-date overview of the existing literature. In order to cover as many biological activities as possible, there are chapters on skin, phototoxicity, invertebrates, and other non-neuronal subjects. To some readers these may seem odd or irrelevant, but the study of kynurenines and their biological importance is still relatively young; the next major advance may arise from a glimpsed association between the mainstream and peripheral research, between the obvious and the obscure.' 307 pages. 7.25 x 10.25 inches..
