About This Item
Edinburgh: David Douglas, 1878. Frontispiece portrait plus 7 engraved plates, vignette of "Rab" on title. Publisher's original beveled green cloth, decorated in blind and gilt, a bit worn at head and foot of spine; a few leaves loose. Bookseller's label, "Roffey & Clark, CROYDON," on front paste-down; binder's label, "Bound by Burn & Co," on rear paste-down. With inscription "E.M. Vamp-Welch from Aunt-Esther-1884.". The sad yet heartwarming tale of a mastiff, Rab, and his masters. The present work is not only valuable as a charming literary piece, but also as a scientific work, giving us a rare glimpse into early surgery, mentioning chloroform being administered to Rab. It was first published in 1858.
