This is a scarce, antique book (disbound) of 50 costume engravings by BARTOLOMEO PINELLI, "Raccolta di Cinquanta Costumi li Piu Interessanti Delle Citta, Terre, e Paesi, in Provincie diverse del Regno di Napoli" ("Collection of Fifty Most Interesting Costumes of the Cities, Lands, and Towns in Different Provinces of the Kingdom of Naples"). 1817 2nd edition (following the 1814 1st edition); Giovanni Scudellari; Rome, Italy. The text is written entirely in Italian. "Disegnati, ed incisi all' acquaforte du Bartolomeo Pinelli Romano" ("Drawn and engraved in etchings by Bartolomeo Pinelli Romano"). Complete - all 50 engravings are present. An extremely prolific engraver, Pinelli's illustrations depicted the costumes of the Italian people, the great epic poems and numerous other subjects, including popular customs. The most recurring subject was Rome (the ancient city as well as the modern one), its inhabitants, and its monuments.

Condition:
Disbound - the book is lacking both covers and end papers, and consists of the title page followed by the 50 engraved plates. The title page has a piece missing at the top-right corner, a name(?) written in pen at the top edge, and a tear along the top edge. Consistent foxing to the plates. Overall in Fair condition only, as the covers are missing.
