About This Item

This is a pristine first edition of the book club edition of Rachel, Rachel, published by Knopf in 1968.

The book was the award-winning third novel by renowned Canadian author Margaret Laurence, and was originally published in 1966. It is about the sexual awakening of a 30-something New England schoolteacher.

Its original title was A Jest of God. However, in 1968, the book was made into a film by Paul Newman, and he gave the film the title Rachel, Rachel. The film was produced and directed by Newman, with Joanne Woodward as Rachel. She won the Golden Globe for Best Actress for the role, and it received a slew of Oscar nominations. After that success, Knopf re-released the novel under the name Rachel, Rachel.

The dust jacket is unclipped and has the shelfwear you see in the photos. There is a tiny remnant of the price tag on the front endpaper, but the book has not been read.
