About This Item

1914. LONG, Lily A. RADISSON: THE VOYAGEUR. A Farce Drama In Four Acts. NY: Henry Holt & Company, 1914. 12mo., black cloth, titles stamped in gilt, in the original dust jacket; 115 pages plus ads. First Edition. A semi-historical poetic drama about trappers in the Lake Superior area and the Indians they meet. A laid-in sheet has a tipped-on printed photograph of Long, signed by Long beneath it. "With a signed quotation from Long: "Radisson- I feel I am a god, as they believe,- A little god, no doubt, but still- a god!." Ink signature of E.A. Collins on the front endpaper, with the pencil notation "Nashville, Tenn. c/o Peabody College." Collins is believed to be Earl Augustus Collins, who did his dissertation at Peabody and co-authored a book "Puppet Plays In Education" in 1932. Interestingly, this copy is annotated in pencil with lighting suggestions for staging this drama. A book that could use some more research! Uncommon in the original dust jacket. Very Good (moderate wear covers with gilt still bright; contents clean & tight, with light cracking rear hinge but still tight; little light spotting few pages); bit of darkening spine (small chips and tears) d/j. $150.00.
