Hardcover, black and white pictorial boards in publisher's original non price-clipped dust-jacket sporting matching art-work. Unpaginated. Illustrated with wonderfully macabre and surreal drawings by the author. Signed by Edward Gorey on title page in usual manner, over crossed out printed name. Stated first Beaufort edition, first printing of the trade edition [The Raging Tide was also made available to collectors as a signed limited edition with a tipped in colophon page in an edition of 200 numbered copies and 26 lettered (A to Z) copies.] Previous owner's Edward Gorey book-plate on front free end-paper and a small label stating "Signed" taped onto inside front dust-jacket flap. Else a fine copy in like dust-jacket. A clean, tight, fresh and unmarked copy. Near fine in near fine dust-jacket. Toledano A93c.
