About This Item

New York: Harper & Row, 1970. Fine.. First edition of this groovy collection of four little books containing poetry and art meant to encapsulate the different seasons. In these vibrant books, the priest-turned-poet Joseph Pintauro captures the vibes of the four seasons alongside paintings and collage by Norman Laliberté. Laliberté's big artistic break came when he was selected to design the colorful banners for the Vatican Pavilion for the 1964 World's Fair in New York City. "Color is very personal, very personal. Every artist has his own color scheme," he said in an interview excerpted by THE BOSTON GLOBE. "In my case, I'm very colorful." His penchant for the pallet is captured in his illustrations for THE RAINBOW BOX, but this collection shows that his artistic design expands beyond the world of paint: the volumes also feature interesting and quirky collages made from Victorian type ornaments and old photographs, as well as marbled paper from Douglas Cockerell and Son. A delightful and well-kept collection. 6'' x 6'' (books); 23.5'' x 17.75'' (poster). Original color pictorial boards. Illustrated in color and black and white. Unpaginated, each volume with circa [96] pages. With original color pictorial poster. In clear plastic box, apparently original. Box with clear tape reinforcement to each corner. Poster with evenly-spaced shallow folds. Books sharp and bright.
