New York: Random House, 1959. First Edition. Near Fine/Near Fine. First edition, first printing. Original tan half cloth with paper-covered boards and mounted photo of actor Sidney Poitier. Near Fine with slight lean to binding, light wear to corners and spine ends, foxing to several preliminary leaves at the edges. In a Near Fine unclipped dust jacket with light edge wear with a short tear to the bottom edge of the rear panel and shallow chipping to spine ends, toning to spine and browning to the blindside, light foxing to flaps.
Synopsis
A Raisin in the Sun is the best-known work of author and playwright Lorraine Hansberry. It debuted on Broadway in 1959, making Hansberry the first African American woman to achieve this honor. The title comes from the poem "Harlem" by Langston Hughes.
