Boston: James French & Company, 1856. xii, [13]-288 pp. Woodcut frontispiece with tissue guard. Plates. Octavo (7-1/2" x 5"). Original cloth, decorative blind stamping to boards, gilt title to spine. Light rubbing to boards, moderate rubbing to extremities, some chipping to spine ends, joints just starting at ends, two nicks to fore-ege of rear board, corners bumped and somewhat worn, free endpapers removed. Moderate toning to interior, faint spotting and light soiling to a few leaves. $150. * Only edition. An anecdotal account of the courts, police and the administration of justice in Boston, Philadelphia and California by a veteran attorney. Having surveyed the field, Fenner concludes: "Happy is the man who avoids litigation, and knows not by personal experience the ramifications of criminal or civil jurisprudence" (vi).
