About This Item
2 Vols., 8vo, original cloth, lightly blind stamped with floral decorations, paper spine labels, 243 & 242 pp. Volumes leaning a bit, spine and extremities faded; mild rubbing and edge wear, some foxing. Overall very good. Charles Latrobe spent two years in America, and was a close friend of Washington Irving, with whom he toured New England and the Western states with. Latrobe was one of the earliest European travelers to visit and talk about the Great Plains. There is even a section in the book about the “Santa Fe Traders”. To give him credit for getting a full view of America, Latrobe also spent a good deal of time visiting the Southern states.
