About This Item

London: The Commodore Press, 1937. Dj is edge and corner worn, chipping, portions missing at the top of the spine, along the base in the rear and at the top corner, spine of the dj is also discolored, pastedown on the front is intact and wonderfully well-preserved, corners are bumped and rubbed, some light outer page edge soil, overall a very well-preserved and collectible used first edition! Dj is nicely preserved in a brand new protective mylar plastic cover! 117 unmarked and uncreased, historical pages nicely enhanced with many color-pastedowns! Foreword: "In this collection we are presenting to the admirers of Raphael sixteen facsimiles of the Great Master chosen from those most suitable for accurate colour reproduction. Our main endeavour has been to render the colours with all possible accuracy so as to give a true idea of the original to all those who are unable to travel all over the world in order to visit the various museums of the Old and of the New Continents. We also flatter ourselves in hoping that even those who had the good fortune of admiring the originals of Rahpael's works will find some enjoyment in refreshing their memory by perusing this volume. Lastly, we shall feel that our task has been accomplished if professionals of Art would regard this book as a useful reference for their own work.". First Edition. Gray Cloth. Very Good/Poor. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Hardcover.
