RARE: TICKET FROM (BUNGLED) BARBARIANS CONCERT (WOOD, RICHARDS), DETROIT 1979

This is an original ticket to the April 28, 1979 concert by The Barbarians, the band formed by Ron Wood to promote his solo album 'Gimme Some Neck'. Neil Young suggested the name to Wood, who originally called it 'The New Barbarians'. It consisted of Wood, Keith Richards, Ian McLagan, Stanley Clarke, Bobby Keys and Ziggy Modeliste and existed for five months.

The Barbarians began by opening for the Rolling Stones at the Oshawa Civic Auditorium on April 22, 1979. This fulfilled one of the terms of Richards' Canadian sentence for drug possession--he had to play two charity concerts in Canada.
The next stop was Ann Arbor (2 concerts) and then Cobo Hall, Detroit, which is where this ticket is from.

At this concert, Richards was clearly high. They eventually gave him a bar stool to sit on but he ran around the stage, then off the stage, and did not reappear. Clarke picked up the slack and was utterly brilliant. The Barbarians played another 17 American shows, including one in Milwaukee at which the audience rioted. They opened for Led Zeppelin at the 1979 Knebworth Festival then broke up. As Wood was sued by the City of Milwaukee for damages done to its theater, he formed a new band to play a make-up concert there in January 1980.

The ticket has a fold line in the center but is otherwise in mint condition.
