Philadelphia: Chilton, 1961. First edition. Hardcover. Fine/good. First edition stated. Hardcover. Map endpapers. xix+305 pp. with bibliography, index. Illustrations. DEaccessioned form a major national military library with their bookplate on the front pastedown and ownership stamp on the half title page (our letter detailing this will be included); no additional markinsg, pockets or etc. . Otherwise fine in price clipped dust jacket rubbed at the folds and wear to the spine ends. In the spring of 1861, Missouri left the Union but in the pro-Union city of St. Louis, Nathaniel Lyon, acting under unprecedented orders signed by Lincoln and Winfield Scott, acted to save the arsenal from secessionists and capture the military camp at Ft. Jackson. He scraped together a volunteer force to march deeper into the state.
