About This Item

[Washington, D.C.: the author; National Canners' Association, Research Laboratory], 1916. Booklet, stapled in wrappers (23 x 15.3 cm.), 32 pages. Table of Contents. FIRST EDITION. A second edition appeared in 1923 with the altered title, Original Recipes for Using Canned Foods. The author, Frederic J. Haskin (1872 [3]-1944), was a Missourian without much formal education, but who became the go-to man for everyone with a question. His information column, answering reader's inquiries, would eventually be run in more than one hundred newspapers, and fielded more than twenty-five million questions in its thirty-three years. Haskin wrote a number of books including, The American Government, The Immigrant: an Asset and a Liability, The Panama Canal, Uncle Sam at Work, and The American Government Today.
In 1912, he became the National Press Club's third president and was a charter member. ~ Tiny chip from lower fore corner of title page; in lightly age-toned gray wrappers, titled in black. Scarce. [OCLC locates one copy (Iowa State)].
