About This Item
Paris: Chez Saintin, Libraire de la Cour, 1823. Hardcover. Very Good. 12mo. 133 by 112 mm. ii, 128 pp. Sixteen plates, thirteen of which are hand-colored, and each of these thirteen have two images. Comparatively scarce, with four copies showing up on OCLC First Search (three of an 1813 edition), and none of these copies appear to have hand-coloring going on. Other than frontis which depicts a boy painting a girl standing as his model, all the hand-colored illustrations are of animals, and the text describes these animals, with some emphasis placed on aspects of relevance to the artist. The final three plates, all non-colored, concern human characteristics. Original pink cartonnage binding, with silk corners, possibly later, and later blank endpapers. Gilt spine title with some rubbing. Scattered light foxing. Light wear overall.
