Fascinating history of Philadelphia's Red Arrow suburban trolley network. Despite a faltering start with an unsuccessful toll road, horse car line and steam dummy line, the system begain to thrive in 1899 under the leadership of Merritt Taylor and continued to do so under the leadership of his son and grandson. The book carefully examines the early, financially troubled years and then illuminates how the Taylor's expanded the system and kept it prosperous when so many other trolley systems ran aground.
