About This Item
Soft cover. Good/Not relevant. Persea Books, New York, 1981 (first published 1950); 8vo, 130 x 200mm; lively pictorial card covers, largely white and red on a black ground; slight curving of the frint and back covers but otherwise in very good condition.... ... ... ... ... Born in and with her early life passed in a Polish ghetto,Yezierska escaped to the US. She became a writer and, destitute, sold a script to Hollywood. From there she became a successful script writer, drawing on her early ghetto life and her society's dreams but then gave it up as her work, and the Hollywood society she moved in, clashed badly with the values she'd been taught by her father. Her voice dried up but it was the writing of this book, hailed as her best, which reinvigorated her writing, her subject now drawn for Hollywood. "I have read few accounts of" the pursuit of happiness, writes Auden, "as truthful and moving as hers."
