B. 1377" -- in title page imprint. No date of publication. "Printed in Germany" -- at foot of title page, indicating it was published before the Second World War. Former owner's name "Stahl" written in pencil at upper edge of front cover. Stahl must have been a tenor as there are occasional pencil marks next to the tenor part. Albert Ernst Anton Becker (1834-1899) was a German composer and conductor; he taught composition at the Akademie der Künste, where his most famous student was Jean Sibelius. He was most successful as a composer of sacred music, of which this cantata, composed in 1883, is an example. Scarce. In Good Condition: old repair of spine with plain paper; former owner markings, as noted; closed 4-cm. tear from fore-edge of front cover; faint stain at upper edge of front cover; otherwise, clean and solid.
