About This Item

R. Perkins, Newton Abbot, first edition, 1994. Rexine, top edge gilt, 8vo, 24 cm,. 806 pp, ills. From the introduction - "More than two thousand books are recorded in the following pages, and virtually all of them are regimental or Corps histories, formally published and available in conventional permanent bindings. They are all accessible - some a great deal more easily than others - to the diligent researcher or collector who wishes to consult them. A small number of general reference books and campaign histories have been included in order to set the scene for the unit histories, or for other reasons which are apparent in the observations with which each entry is accompanied. However, Í have in broad terms followed a policy of excluding all items of ephemera, personal memoirs, generalised war stories, books in which fiction and fact are blended into a single narrative, and any other publication which does satisfy two fundamental criteria - is this the history of a specific formation or unit during a specified period of time, and is it assessed to be authoritative and reliable? It has been necessary - for reasons of space and therefore cost - regretfully to exclude many otherwise excellent items which do not fulfil those parameters. Edges of textblock fingersoiled, otherwise Very Good.
