About This Item
Congress of the United States. Register of Debates in Congress Comprising the Leading Debates and Incidents of the Second Session of the Twenty-First Congress Together with an Appendix Containing Important State Papers and Public Documents and the Laws, of a Public Nature, Enacted During the Session With a Copious Index to the Whole. (Vol. VII) (Washington, DC: Gales and Seaton, 1831)
Quarto. 851, cxciii, 78. xiii. Bound in Calf with leather labels.
Condition: This is a complicated book, condition-wise. Ex-Library from the Carnegie Library of Pennsylvania State College (now Penn State University (PSU)). Calf binding had the spine shellac-ed, probably to slow the red rot that appears at the hinges – which despite the red rot seems to be intact. The spine, however, has serious damage caused by the shellac and moderate wear as a publicly accessible book in a university library setting. Scuffing on front and back covers with some loss to the finish layer of the leather. There is a label inside of the front cover for the library as well as pierced indication of library ownership on title page. A rubber stamp saying "withdrawn" is on front and back of title page over the piercing. Pages show foxing and toning. Other damage is likely, but surprisingly the book is tight.
This book includes speeches by some of the most famous Congressmen in American history – including Davy Crockett and Henry Clay.
