The Smithsonian's attempt to soothe ruffled Wright feathers after promoting their one-time Secretary's own flying machine, which, they asserted, would have flown had it not crashed upon launch some weeks before the Wrights made their successful flight; the Wrights were going to give their aircraft to a British museum.
