About This Item

The Metropolitan Museum of Art Book. Fine. Soft cover. 4to - over 9¾ - 12" tall. Softcover. Two volume set in slipcase. Condition: Fine, with just a hint of shelfwear to slipcase. 148 and 262pp respectively. Many colour illustrations. This catalogue was produced to accompany the exhibition of work by Rembrandt held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art from October 1, 1995 to January 7, 1996. The Metropolitan possesses a significant collection of paintings and drawings by or attributed to Rembrandt and the purpose of this exhibition was to demystify the kind of research that happens in such a museum by demonstrating the different types of approaches taken by art historians and restorers in reaching their conclusions as to whether a painting is authentic. .
