A handsome copy, structurally and and tightly bound, showing mild wear and unobtrusive flaws. Not so very far from "As New". The DJ shows wear to the extremities, with varying amounts of chip loss; mild rubbing; the blackstrip is lightly sunned, and the titles thereon are slightly blanched; the price has not been clipped. Logan Pearsall Smith (1865 1946) was an American-born essayist and critic who became a British subject in later life. Harvard and Oxford educated, he was known for his aphorisms and epigrams, and was an expert on 17th Century divines. His Words and Idioms made him an authority on correct English language usage. He wrote his autobiography, Unforgotten Years, in 1938. He was much influenced by Walter Pater, gave Cyril Connolly his first job as his secretary. He was a devotee of Jane Austen's fiction.
