Tanning to title page and background toning to first 16 text pages; offset toning to text pages facing plates. Maps are upside down when opened. First map with 2 tape mends on back, 1.5" & 3.5", and tears and chips on a bottom fold edge near hinge; a very small spot and bit of tanning in a small area of the margin. Other maps, as well as the plates appear very clean. Binding is tight. ; 8vo; original patterned brown cloth; spine lettered in gilt, with 'Senate' over ribbon design in blind. Leaf (blank) ; 2 color lithograph plates; title leaf; (1) Letter of the Secretary of War; 2-363 pp. ; 364 blank; 365 errata; 4 folding maps in rear; 8 additional color lithograph plates in text block. "Captain Mullan's report with an itinerary comprises pages 1-84 and is followed by the engineers' reports and other meteorological and astronomical data. It covers the period from March 1858 to September 1862." (Wagner - Camp, Becker, 393); 8vo 8" - 9" tall .
