About This Item

Fascinating Document describing the attempt by the United States to build a sea level canal across Nicaragua prior to the 'revolution' that created Panama. Original brown cloth hardcover, with numerous maps, sketches, and photogravures of the proposed route and buildings.
(1) folding sketch of lines and reconnaissances, (11) large fold out maps and detail drawings, 56 full page photogravures accompany the text, a detailed report of the survey. All maps, photogravures, and drawings are intact. Slight foxing on front free endpaper and on back flyleaves. Binding is tight, inside pages very clean. Hardcover boards show some wear along margins. Gilt title along spine is well preserved. This publication details the the survey for the ultimately unsuccessful attempt to build the canal. An enviable and important original resource for any historian of the region or America.
