A collection of poetry, prose and art from the Indian Affairs Communications Workshop held at UC-Santa Cruz in 1971, led by the U.S. poet laureate William Stafford and Howard University professor Glenda Dickerson. Includes a preface and two pieces by Stafford (''With new friends at the beach'' and ''On the Santa Cruz campus'') and pieces by Cal E. Rollins, C. Fayne Porter, and T. D. Allen. Participants were drawn from Indian schools and reservations from across the country, from the Bureau of Indian Affairs, the Institute of American Indian Arts, and a few from UC-Santa Cruz.
