About This Item
Vancouver: Pierway Inc. / Vancouver Maritime Museum, 2000. First edition thus. A hardcover facsimile edition of the 1945 Royal Canadian Mounted Police reports written by the St. Roch's captain, H.A. Larsen. The St. Roch sailed from Vancouver, B.C. to Sydney, Nova Scotia, 1940-42, and from Dartmouth, Nova Scotia to Vancouver, B.C., 1944. It was the first vessel to traverse the Northwest Passage both ways, and the first to accomplish it in a single season. "These papers include a short history of the St. Roch, navigation reports providing information on ice conditions and navigation difficulties, patrol reports of sledge journeys, a realistic portrayal of the work and working conditions of the police patrols; and tables of air and sea temperatures taken three-times daily during the second voyage, July 29 - September 20, 1944" - (Arctic Bibliography, 14926). Bound in full dark gray cloth with silver lettering, with a new Introduction by James P. Delgado of the Vancouver Maritime Museum. Includes many illustrations in the text and a fold-out map. A Fine "as new" copy..
