George Buchanan Rerum Scoticarum Historia, ad Jacobum VI Scotorum Regum. Antonium Schouten. Trajecti ad Rhenum. [Utrecht]. 1697. 8vo. 700pp; index. Title page in red and black. Historiated initials. Toned. Paper fault lower corner 449, lower corner fault to 663, no loss of text. Some creased corners. Title page edges fragile with small hole and repair to upper margin. Signature of JW Norwood, dated 1860 to title, decorative stamp of Thomas Francis Fowler to verso and to last page.

Christopher Irvine Historiae Scoticae Nomenclatura Latino-Vernacular. Multis Flosculis, ex Antiquis Albinorum Monumentis & Lingua Galeciorum Prisca Decerptis Adspersa. Jacob Watson, Craig's Close. Edinburgh. 1697. 96pp. Engraved vignette to title page. Some creased corners.

George Buchanan (1506-1582) Scottish historian and humanist scholar. Lecturer at Coimbra, Portugal. Tutor to Mary Queen of Scots. Keeper of the Privy Seal of Scotland. "The greatest Latin writer, whether in prose or in verse, in sixteenth century Europe".

Christopher Irvine of Bonshaw (c. 1620-1693) Physician General of Scotland. He became historiographer to King Charles II and to King James II and VII. He also served under Cromwell, reverting to supporting the monarchy upon the Restoration.

A prime example of the Scottish-Dutch book trade of the late seventeenth century.
