About This Item

Chicago: Tribune Company, 1952. 8vo (9 x 6 inches; 230 x 154 mm), 15, [1] pages, in stapled wrappers. An offprint featuring controversial "revisionist" historian Harry Elmer Barnes's review of a book on American foreign policy. The review was prepared for the Chicago Sunday Tribune Magazine of Books and is published here as an offprint. Barnes (1889-1968), who was an isolationist with pro-German sympathies, criticizes the authors, claiming they're whitewashing Roosevelt's foreign policy. He takes particular aim at one of the authors, William L. Langer, a colleague whom he had previously considered an isolationist. He also claims the authors and other "court historians" are attempting to undermine the work of revisionist scholars such as himself. The review was published by "Colonel" Robert McCormick's Chicago Tribune, which was virulently isolationist and anti-Roosevelt. OCLC shows only five institutional holdings: Saint Lawrence University, Loyola University of Chicago, Northwestern University, Michigan State, University, and Duke University. (December 2019). SCARCE.

CONDITION: Vertical crease throughout, staples rusty, some soiling to wrappers and curling of page edges. A Very Good copy.
