A Review of "The World Crisis and American Foreign Policy: The Challenge to Isolation, 1937-1940 by William L. Langer and S. Everett Gleason" [Offprint]

An offprint featuring controversial "revisionist" historian Harry Elmer Barnes's review of a book on American foreign policy. The review was prepared for the Chicago Sunday Tribune Magazine of Books and is published here as an offprint. Barnes (1889-1968), who was an isolationist with pro-German sympathies, criticizes the authors, claiming they're whitewashing Roosevelt's foreign policy. He takes particular aim at one of the authors, William L. Langer, a colleague whom he had previously considered an isolationist. He also claims the authors and other "court historians" are attempting to undermine the work of revisionist scholars such as himself. The review was published by "Colonel" Robert McCormick's Chicago Tribune, which was virulently isolationist and anti-Roosevelt.
