Johann Christian Friedrich Holderlin (1770-1843) was a German poet described as "the most German of Germans"; he was a key figure in German Romanticism and an important thinker in the development of German Idealism (N.B., info from Wikipedia). This volume contains Holderlin's poem "Der Rhein", accompanied by a sequence of linocuts by Julije Knifer (1924-2004), which depict the meandering geometric forms for which he was known. The poem and prints move between each other, interweaving to create a gently tangible reading of Holderlin's text.

In a clear acetate wrapper. Please note the text is in German.

___CONDITION: Volume is in fine condition, with clean wrappers, the corners straight and unrubbed, the binding tight, the interior clean and bright, and free of prior owner markings. Acetate wrapper is near fine, with only very minor edge wear.
