John Brick, author of historical novels and children's books, was born in Newburgh, New York in 1922. After attending the Newburgh Free Academy, Brick studied creative writing at Columbia University. He served as editor of Export Trade from 1945 to 1949. In 1950, Troubled Spring became his first published novel, followed by The Raid , Homer Crist , The Rifleman , and Jubilee , which was published in 1956. During the 1960s, Brick served as a staff writer for Life magazine; assistant to the president of the University of Toledo, Ohio; and on the staff of the U. S. Senate Permanent Investigations Subcommittee. John Brick died in 1973. The Richmond Raid tells the story of in late February of 1864, the Union cavalry engaged in one of the wildest, most daring actions to take place during the whole of the War. The scheme, which involved penetration Lee's Army and getting behind the Confederate lines, was devised by the young Brigadier General Hugh Judson Kilpatrick, ....
