About This Item

New York: CFC Communications Section, 1974. A scarce single issue of the organ of Centers for Change, an organization founded in NYC in 1968 as IF...THEN. The group was founded by Dr. Fred Newman and was initially anarchistic and confrontational before focusing on serious political organizing. They operated a therapeutic and dental clinic, a communications center, a children's school, etc. and practiced a kind of psychotherapy espoused by Newman. Newman eventually gravitated toward Lyndon LaRouche's National Caucus of Labor Committees and formed an official political alliance in June, 1974, only to leave two months later and pronounce LaRouche a fascist. He soon founded the International Workers Party and later the New Alliance Party. This issue features coverage CFC's growing political alliance with NCLC, NUWRO, and RYM, an article called "The Cost of Living Is Slavery," an endorsement of Black NUWRO member, Jennette Washington, for State Assembly, Lyndon LaRouche's excerpted keynote pseech to the second annual NUWRO conference, March 31, 1974, "Confessions of an Ex-Movement Addict," a full page letter to Right on Time, and many adverts for CFC initiatives. Tabloid format printed in blue and black on newsprint, 16 p., illus. Machine folded else Fine. All issues scarce. Two institutions holding any issue in OCLCl (Yale & Kansas).
