RILSIM, the "Reduced-Impact Logging SIMulator", is financial modeling software developed as a service to the international forestry community. RILSIM has been designed to permit users to rapidly estimate the costs and net revenue associated with logging operations in order to compare short-term financial costs and returns expected from reduced-impact logging with those expected from conventional logging under identical local site conditions. The purpose of the software is to help users learn about reduced-impact logging and its potential financial advantages as compared to conventional logging.
Primary sponsorship for the development of RILSIM 1.0 and 2.0 was provided by the following organizations:
USDA Forest Service, International Programs Office
US Agency for International Development
Additional in-kind assistance has been provided by the following:
Pacific Northwest Research Station, USDA Forest Service
Asia-Pacific Forestry Commission
FAO Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific
University of Florida
Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR)
Sponsorship for the continued development and support of RILSIM is provided by Blue Ox Forestry as a service to RILSIM users worldwide. Blue Ox Forestry is the original developer of RILSIM and continues to support the software, develop new versions, and work with translators to support new languages.
