About This Item

London: John Murray, (1962). First proof edition, first printing. This is a very near fine copy. Beautifully illustrated by Edward Ardizzone, the dust wrapper is slightly bumped and toned at the top and tail edges, showing the original 15s net price. The paper covers are without notable wear, are mostly free from spinal creases, and clean at the text blocks. The scheduled date of publication, '29 Oct 1962' is boldly stamped to the front panel. The internals are clean and free from annotations. This is a very near fine copy of an increasingly scarce proof.

A book of nine sections, each of which are preceded by passages from Summoned by the Bells.
