About This Item

Boston: Ticknor and Company, 1885. First printing. Hardcover. Very Good. Mr. Howell's Latest Works" on advert facing title page, but last word on p. 176, "sojourner" looks a bit battered to us so we can't say for sure if this is a first issue. 8vo, terracotta publisher's cloth, good plus with light general wear and rubbing to spine ends, joints, corners, small ink stamp from CMU library on rear endpaper, bookplate removed from pastedown, leaving small abrasion; the bookplate is present still but laid in loosely; it is stamped withdrawn. Hinges sound, text clean, a bit toned. A nice enough copy of Howells' most enduring book.
