River Angling for Salmon and Trout. With a Memoir of the Author: Followed with A Treatise on the Salmon, and A List of the Tweed Salmon Casts, Younger, John. Published by J. & J. H. Rutherfurd, Kelso, 1860. Second Edition. 16mo up to 6½" tall., xliv, 206pp. with poem; tissue guarded steel engraved frontis portrait and facsimile signature of author. Half Leather over brown buckram; title only on small leather label to spine; yapped edges. Contents are in very good condition with light toning, a few pencil marks and a very light water stain affecting pages up to title page. Boards and edges are rubbed; leather strip missing from head of spine. Binding is tight and square and repaired at some point with additional white endpapers. A charming volume.
Originally published in 1840 under title On River Angling for Salmon and Trout. To the text of the first edition the publisher added the following: 1. A "Sketch of the Author's Life" by "a person who knew him intimately for many years during the later part of his life." 2. Two new chapters - on "Creepe. John Younger (1785-1860), was a Scottish shoemaker and poet, at Kelso, who enjoyed a great local reputation as an angler and fly-dresser.
