About This Item

UK,slim Qrto HB,no dw/dj,as issued,illustrated,1st thus edn. [UK,Cape,1982 is the true first edn,and this is a 1988 re-issue with renewed text copyright of 1988.] FINE+.No owner inscrptn, and no price removal from rear board.Bright, crisp, clean, glossy laminated boards with colour pictorial artwork illustration by Quentin Blake, with brown+black lettering to front panel+ spine/backstrip,and immaculate plain pale beige endpapers; with negligible shelf-wear to edges and corners - no nicks or tears present - very minimal in number and almost imperceptible indent impressions to either of the boards.Top+fore-edges bright and clean; contents bright, tight and clean also - pristine - no dog-ear reading creases to any pages' corner tips - appears unread, apart from my own collation.UK,slim Qrto HB, no dw/dj,as issued(?),illustrated,1st thus edn,32pp [unpaginated and excluding endpapers] includes colour illustration by Quentin Blake to title page - the reverse of which has information on the Roald Dahl Charities: The Roald Dahl Foundation and The Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre,6 nursery rhyme parodies: Cinderella, Jack and the Beanstalk, Snow-White and the Seven Dwarfs, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Little Red Riding Hood and the Wolf and The Three Little Pigs,12 full-colour,full-page illustrations and monochrome illustrations to page borders/edges - all by Quentin Blake - throughout the text and the book. Roald Dahl's own favourite and principal illustrator, Blake illustrated several other books of the author's work, during the author's lifetime, and these illustrations bring considerable enchantment to this book. Visually the exterior appearance is exceptional and particularly internally,is also in an exceptional condition/state of preservation and presentation for a book of its 45+ year old and nature, i.e. a children's book.It really is an exceptional, exemplary example for its cleanliness, brightness and lack of detracting faults. Want more Roald DAHL titles? For similar and other available titles - please search my CHILDRENS/ILLUSTRATED catalogue. The Charity created in memory of Roald Dahl was originally The Roald Dahl Foundation,(but now the Roald Dahl's Marvellous Children's Charity ) by his widow Felicity, shortly after his death in 1991. Sir Quentin Blake helped to found the charity having been a huge part of Roald Dahl's life and stories and remains a dedicated supporter and Co-President of the now,Roald Dahl's Marvellous Children's Charity. The Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre is an independent charity, founded in 2001 by Roald Dahl's widow,Liccy.Their founding objective as a charity is to further the education of the public in the art of literature and creativity,by running a museum and literature centre based on the works of Roald Dahl. Its doors opened in 2005,in Great Missenden, Buckinghamshire, the heart of Roald Dahl country. Since the Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre opened their doors in 2005,they have used the example of Roald Dahl's creative craft to show that what he did, children can do too. Quentin Blake, born 1932,Sidcup,Kent.Son of a civil servant.Educated at Chiselhurst,Sidcup Grammar School and Cambridge University.Attended life classes at Chelsea College of Art.Tutor in illustration at the Royal College of Art (1965-78) and Head of the Illustration Dept 1978-1986,and is now a visiting professor. He was honoured with an OBE in 1988.He works in pen and ink and watercolour in a popular and unmistakable style, capturing essential character and movement with wit and gaiety in a few rapid strokes. He has illustrated many editions of the BBC Jackanory television programme.Whilst he illustrated many of his own works,he is renowned for his collaboration with Roald Dahl.Quentin Blake was the first Children's Laureate from 1999-2001.
