He was the founding publisher of Encounter Books in California and held that position from 1998 until 2005. He continues as a consultant to the company. Collier has collaborated with David Horowitz on many projects over many decades. He has served as a co-author with Horowitz on several history and critical books (including The Rockefellers). David Joel Horowitz (born January 10, 1939) is an American writer. He is a founder and current president of the think tank the David Horowitz Freedom Center and director of Discover the Networks. Horowitz also founded the organization Students for Academic Freedom. Horowitz has written several books with author Peter Collier, including four on prominent 20th-century American political families that had members elected to the presidency. Horowitz was an outspoken adherent of the New Left. He later rejected liberal and progressive ideas completely and has since become a proponent of conservatism. A chronicle of the oil-and power-endowed American family, tracing its fortunes and fame and the activities and careers of individual sons, brothers, and cousins, from the founding father unto the fourth, trust-funded generation. Against a richly detailed backdrop of history, the story of this unique American family unfolds. It begins with John D. Rockefeller Sr., who amassed a fortune amid the muck and disorder of the Pennsylvania oil fields and left his son to deal with the public outcry. It follows Rockefeller Jr. as he built the charities and foundations that made the name a public institution. And it tracks the lives of the 5 Rockefeller brothers. Here then is Laurance, clever and charming as a youth, burned out and cynical by middle age; Winthrop, the shy, awkward, black sheep who finally made a mark for himself in the eyes of everyone but his family; JDR3, introverted and anxious even after years of proving himself; David, a man on the move who took the nation's front-ranking bank and made it number 3; and Nelson, ambitious, aggressive, the brother who broke the unwritten family code.
