Rocks and What They Tell Us by Lester del Rey - 1961

Glossy, decorative hardbound boards with rocks and fossils on the front and the author /illustrator bio on the rear board. Part of the "Whitman Learn About Book" series the boards are in very good condition with no edge wear or damage. There is wear at both the top and bottom of the back strip with slight loss of the cover at the top of the gutter. All corners are sharp with no wear or bumping but have the slightest of wear. The spine is straight with solid hinges and no cracking to the decorative endpapers although there is age tanning to the papers. Binding is tight with all pages firmly attached to the stitching. Slight age tanning throughout as book was printed on matt paper. All internal pages are clean, with no tears, chips, nor any previous owner marks. Fully illustrated in color with intext illustrations on every page. 57 pages and one page of advertisement.

Lester del Rey (1915 – 1993) may well be remembered mostly as a science fiction author and editor with many books in the juvenile Winston Science Fiction series and editor at Del Rey Books, but later in his career he was also the author of juvenile non-fiction books. "He states in book bio that "….as a writer of books about space he found it necessary to know the rocks of earth in order to better understand the make-up of the planets."

Pru Herric (Prudence C. Herrick) (1897 - ?) was born in India and became known for her illustration, paintings, and as a teacher. She was a graduate of Mount Holyoke College and of the Pratt Institute, Brooklyn and taught at Pratt for many years.
