About This Item

This is a first/only edition of Roland Gissing: The Peoples' Painter, published in 1988. It is both a biography and an art book.

Roland Gissing (1895–1967) was a Canadian artist who was born in England and moved to North America to become a cowboy. He settled in Alberta and became one of Canada's most famous landscape painters.

This book is about his life, his approach to his work and his art. It is
12 1/8" x 9 3/8", 74 pages.

It's a beautiful book, with loads of photographs and drawings.

Stuck to the inside back cover are two cards, and a letter, from the co-author and Gissing's dealer/gallery owner Nonie Houlton.

There had been a bookplate on the inside front cover--that was torn off, leaving a couple of white marks. It was also a gift and there is an (attractive) inscription on the front endpaper.

Otherwise mint condition.
