New York: Dodd, Mead and Company. Very Good+ with no dust jacket. 1895. Hardcover. Volume I only (of two volumes). Translated from the French by Mrs. B.M. Sherman. First US Edition. In full green cloth-covered boards, which are elaborately decorated in gilt and red. With 6 engraved illustrations, each of which is tissue-protected, and the tissues bear printed information on the person in the accompanying illustration. Darkened spine w/faded but readable gilt lettering. Top edge gilt, fore and bottom edges are heavily deckled. Interior pages bear some foxing, and with prev. owner's bookplate at front pastedown, otherwise interior clean and bright. A very handsome copy of a romantic work, set in the time of Napoleon I. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 284 pages .
